We are having triplets through surrogacy in Fresno. Our surrogate has made it through 33 weeks now and she is feeling great and the babies are doing really well too. At 31 weeks, the ultrasound doctor measured their weight with Baby A (boy)at 4.3 lbs, Baby B (girl)at 3.11 lbs, and baby C (boy) at 4.7 lbs. Our surrogate had another ultra sound appointment this past week and the doctor cannot measure them since they are all so intertwined at this point, but all their vitals are great!

Our surrogate has Kaiser insurance and we also have Kaiser insurance. I went to the doctor's appointment at 32 week (our surrogate drove to the hospital herself and walked from the parking lot to the doctor's office herself).

I had a conversation with the doctor re a birth plan. She cannot tell us since she does not have one. First of all, she told us that her superiors are still debating whether to refer us out to the Fresno Community regional center which is a Level III NICU hospital or keep us inside Kaiser. Her superiors wanted to refer us out since they do not want to provide care for our triplets once they are born because this is a surrogacy situation (not knowing that we also have Kaiser insurance). I assume her superiors will most likely deny claims and refuse to pay for the babies stay in the Regional Center. Our doctor has been fighting for us that Kaiser should provide care for the babies since it is known from the very beginning that this is a surrogacy situation. Our doctor wants to keep us inside Kaiser since she does not have privilege at the Fresno Community Regional Center, and Kaiser's contract is with the Fresno Children's Hospital and she believes that Kaiser should provide care for the babies. In the end, she told us that if our surrogate can make it to the 34 weeks, we will be delivering at Kaiser.

I am torn. On one hand, our doctor has been really nice throughout the pregnancy, we would love to have her deliver the babies instead of some strangers deliver the babies; on the other hand, I am concerned what if any of the babies have any problems and need the Level III NICU care, which is not available in Kaiser. I agree with her superiors wanting to have us referred out just for different reasons. But how do I tell the doctor that I want us referred out to the Regional Center?

I am planning to be at the two doctor's appointments (one with the regular doctor and one with the ultrasound doctor) on September 29 (35 week). That's our goal for now since our surrogate and the babies are doing really well. She feels like she is having a singleton (she had a few painful weeks but they are over now). What should I tell the regular doctor? Any suggestions and/or experience re regular doctor versus some doctor we do not know delivering at the Regional Center? Is it absolutely necessary to have them delivered at the Level III NICU hospital? What if any of the babies need the advanced level care but not available in Kaiser? Thanks in advance.

So Kaiser does not offer any sort of NICU??? I was told by my MFM/Peri that since I was having triplets, to only settle for the HIGHEST level NICU possible~which is a level 4 NICU. I delivered right at 34 weeks and my babies needed just that. You can never be TOO careful. Is there a level 4 NICU any where in the Fresno area???? Even though my son was over 5 lbs... he still needed CPAP. I was born in a Kaiser hospital in Sacramento.... I wish I could help with your insurance issues... best of Luck!

It sounds like there is an information breakdown around who is legally and financially responsible.

I work for KP but in another region so I'm not sure who to tell you to contact for the care coordination but I recommend starting with your doc.

I live in the area where your babies will be born. The medical care here is just plain awful. You can meet very nice doctors but when it comes to an emergency situation they fall short. If I were you I would push hard to have them at Fresno Community Regional Center. If the babies need level 4 care I believe Children's Hospital Central California has that level care. Congratulations on becoming a father, soon you will be able to hold those precious babies.

You need to get this straightened out ASAP. You can't wait for 35 weeks. She could deliver any day. Things can change very quickly in a triplet pregnancy.

She needs to deliver at a hospital with at least a Level III NICU. Kaiser has to provide that care for the babies. You may need to go to whatever hospital Kaiser will pay for that has at least a Level III NICU. I agree with the other posters. You need a case manager immediately. Your doctor may be nice, but nice isn't going to provide the level of NICU care your babies may need.
代孕妈妈至少应该到有三级新生儿重症监护病房的医院生产。凯撒应该提供护理。你可以去一家能够提供这种服务的医院。我同意其他上贴者的意见。你需要马上立个个案。你的医生也许很不错，但有好的医生不表示她可以提供好的婴儿护理。
